In high school, I was very lucky to have an art teacher who taught me many different art forms. From pottery to screen printing to paper making and paper mâché....cyanotypes, monotypes, block printing...and of course drawing and painting. Bookbinding has always been one of the art forms that I have sought out even as my graphic design career took me away from the arts that I knew and loved. Throughout the years I have taken classes at the MN Center for the Book and have dabbled a little on my own. However, I had the opportunity to take an online course and this is that project.

In the magazine Mother Earth News, I found a super fun article on how to create your own botanical watercolors using flowers from your garden.

           How to make botanical watercolors

           Materials Needed:

Flowers ( the jury is out on whether these should be dried at all - experiment in progress)

            Empty bottles (like Gatorade bottles)

Alum - I got mine at Runnings, in the canning section

Gum Arabic Powder - I did have to order this online although Hobby Lobby might carry it

A container to put your finished paint in. I bought a small fishing tackle box, like very small see photos. You can also order watercolor trays. I ordered one from Jerry's Artarama, so I will show both options in the steps.
